INEC suspends result collation in Bayelsa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa state has said the collation of results of presidential and National Assembly elections is yet to begin,  blaming the terrain of the state for the delay.

This was revealed by the Head of Department, INEC Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Wilfred Ifogah, who also noted that the commission was also conducting supplementary polls in 39 units in Ogbia and Sagbama local government areas.

He said, “Yes, some results have started coming in but you know the terrain and even as I am talking now, elections are ongoing in some wards and units in different local government areas.

“The elections in those areas were rescheduled because of malfunctioning smart card readers and mix-up in some units.

“A total of 39 polling units were affected in Sagbama and Ogbia LGAs. Voting is ongoing today, February 24 and it will stop at 6pm,” he said.
