In a suspected murder-suicide, a policeman attached to the Ondo State Police Command has allegedly shot his wife to death before turning the gun on himself.

They left behind a three weeks old baby and a two years old child.

Reports say the policeman identified simply as Tolulope perpetrated the act on Tuesday evening after returning from work. The incident occurred in their Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.

The policeman, who was attached to the Akungba Police Division, had reportedly accused his wife of infidelity, saying she received too many calls and messages from different men.

The accusation was said to have caused constant quarrels between the couple.

But the policeman took the matter a step further when he allegedly shot his wife and then himself on Tuesday.

The state police command confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

Its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Tee-Leo Ikoro said that investigation had begun into the incident to determine its actual cause.

Describing the incident as “sad and unfortunate”, the police spokesman said,  “The couple were the only one at home when the incident happened, so no one can actually pinpoint that it was a case of murder and suicide.”
