Insecurity: Citizen Defence Force Urgently Needed – Senator Sani

The Senator for Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani, has called for a Citizen Defence Force (CDF) in Nigeria.

Sani said that this citizen-driven security initiative would help to complement the efforts of the security agencies in the battle against kidnappers, bandits and terrorists.

The vocal senator made the call in a tweet on Tuesday.

Nigeria has continued to witness increasing insecurity, especially in the north, where reports of killings have become a daily occurrence.

According to Civic Media Lab, no fewer than 178 persons were killed in Southern Kaduna between January and July 2020.

Coordinated attacks on four communities in Atyap chiefdom, Zangon Kataf Local Government Areas (LGA) of the volatile region left 22 persons dead and many others missing or wiounded on Wednesday, August 5.

In Katsina State, at least 153 persons were reported killed between April and June 14.

The North-Eastern states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe continued to bleed from the 11-year Boko Haram insurgency.

However, Sani said that the Citizen Defence Force would help nip many of the attacks in the bud.

He wrote, “Citizens Defence Force CDF is urgently needed to complement the efforts of security agencies to protect the people under the siege of Kidnappers, Bandits and Terrorists.”
