President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Quadri Olaleye has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign if he cannot bring to justice those responsible for the killing of its members and other Nigerians in the Abuja-Kaduna train attack on Monday night.

Olaleye stated this on Thursday while lamenting the killing of TUC Secretary General, Musa-Lawal Ozigi and Kwara State Chairman, Akin Akinsola and others on the ill-fated train.

He equally charged the government to ensure that those abducted by the assailants were freed and reunited with their families.

According to him, the Federal Government’s response should go beyond observing one-minute silence by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the victims but go all out to fish out the perpetrators and deal with them accordingly.

“The government should go beyond that to condole families of the deceased, openly condemn the act, and issue a marching order to its entire security chiefs to fish out and punish the perpetrators of the dastardly act. If this administration can no longer guarantee our safety they should quit for God’s sake. Enough is enough,” the TUC President said.

He said it was ironical that Nigeria was witnessing a high rate of insecurity under a government which its 2015 campaign manifesto had security as one of its high points.

Olaleye said it was regretted that the Buhari administration has been watching Nigerians dying like chickens, noting that no sensible government would do such.

“Our road, air and rail transport systems are no longer safe, these promises in our opinion are nothing but a ploy orchestrated just to take over power. It is awful and very clear that Nigerians have become sacrificial lamb for politicians,” he stated.

The TUC boss disclosed that the union has put its affiliates and civil society allies across the nation on alert on the need to engage government to rise up to its constitutional role of protecting the citizenry.

“If nothing is done by this administration to fish out these criminals, rescue those held captive and bring them to justice the organised labour is going to react,” Olaleye warned.

He enjoined workers to wear black hand bands to mourn the death of their comrades and express their displeasure with the insecurity in the country which caused the deaths.
