The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called on the Federal Government to deal with those using social media to cause chaos in the country.

According to the group, social media has become a scourge that is fuelling insecurity in the country and must be checked.

Miyetti Allah made this known in a Wednesday statement signed by its National Secretary, Alhaji Othman Ngelzarma while condoling with the people of Plateau State over the killings in Mangu and Barkin Ladi LGAs.

Describing the killings as needless, senseless and uncalled for, the group said it was further disheartening coming at a time the state government had invested so much in peacebuilding and confidence among the various nationalities.

But Miyetti Allah frowned at the activities of some “faceless persons” allegedly taking to social media to use the excuse of the killings to foment trouble.

“MACBAN also condemn efforts by some faceless groups that circulate in the social media the glorification of violence by posting justification for reprisal killings.

“There is nowhere violence and counter-violence had solved any problem.

“MACBAN calls on the Federal Government to clamp down on the operation of some social media platforms that encourage genocide, cessation and hatred. Social media is now a scourge in itself.

“We urge security agencies to deal with purveyors of hate, divisiveness under whatever guise to stem heating the polity,” the statement read.

The group vowed to support the state government in ending this cycle of violence, punish those found guilty and support communities that thrive in peace.
