The Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, says Nigerians cannot afford to keep trading blames over the security challenge in the country.

He said the task of securing Nigeria is a collective responsibility that must be borne by all.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives condemned the current practice of trading blames and passing the buck when security issues are concerned, saying it is encouraging criminals.

Masari spoke over the weekend at the commissioning of operational security tracking facility and communication centre for security operatives located at the Police Headquarters, Katsina.

He said that the local communities must be made aware of the usefulness of the centre in tackling the worrisome security challenge in the country.

“Why are we surrendering our responsibility to some people that are mindless, who kill and maim our people? The ideals of Katsina Initiative should be taken to the people to defend themselves,” Masari stated.

The Katsina governor stated that despite being few in number, bandits continue to operate “because we have failed to do what we are supposed to do that we have overstretched the armed forces.”

He expressed belief that the centre would go a long way to assist in combating the menace of banditry and other crimes.
