Inspector General of Police Recalls Officers Attached to EFCC

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has recalled several key officer attached to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to a report by The Cable, about 20 zonal and sectional heads were ordered to report to force headquarters in Abuja. The recalled officers are expected to be given new areas of assignment upon arrival in Abuja.

The EFCC is normally staffed by police officers drawn from various departments of the Nigerian police force.

According to several unconfirmed reports, the move is being carried out by the police command to remove officers who have close ties with the embattled former acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.

Some of the affected police officers have allegedly spent years at the anti-graft agency.

The IGP had earlier ordered the withdrawal of police security detail of the former acting chairman as soon as his ordeal began with a presidential probe panel investigating him on allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
