In what seems like a rare stroke of fate, a child street hawker was rescued by an instagram celebrity Williams Uchemba after seeing a picture of a child sleeping beside a tray of bananas on a street divider taken by @UnilagOlodo.
The caption on the picture read….. “10pm: somebody’s child on a major road….”
This apparently caught the attention of Mr. Uchemba who requested for more details in order to get the child of the streets.
In a later Update Mr Uchemba posted…. “I found him…his name is Joseph and I was told he hasn’t eaten anything for 3 days well this is his last day on the street. Thanks @queen_stephaniejames and @unilagolodo…”
Mr Uchemba confirmed the identity of the boy via a video chat and gathered that a woman who promised to send him to school brought him to Lagos from akwa ibom state; but instead of school he found himself hawking things and remitting the proceeds to same woman.
Mr. Uchemba tried contacting the lady to verify the story but the woman declined insisting he can take the boy away if he wants.
His parents have been found and Mr.Uchemba promised to offer the boy a scholarship.
Time and time again we realise the internet can be a force for good if properly utilised.
