International Observers Slam Osun State Supplementary Elections

International observers, including the missions of the United State, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, have slammed the Osun State elections.

INEC declared APC the winner of the elections which took place yesterday and it has generated controversy with PDP’s candidate, Ademola Adeleke contesting the results.

In the elections held on Saturday, PDP had more votes, but due to the number of cancelled votes being more than the margin with which Adeleke used to win, the results were declared inconclusive.

Following the elections held yesterday, the international observers present said that they noticed a lot of intimidation and malpractice taking place.

“We witnessed what appeared to be incidents of interference and intimidation of voters and heard reports of harassment of party monitors, journalists and domestic observers,” US Consul-General John Bray, who spoke on behalf of the missions, said to newsmen.

“We are very concerned by these reports and we will be checking with stakeholders to determine the facts. We call on all stakeholders to remain calm.”

While it was claimed that Saturday’s polls were said to have been peaceful, the ones that held across 7 polling units yesterday, were anything but.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also expressed concern over reports received of violence and intimidation.
