Internet Fraudster Jailed for $1,500 Scam

A young Nigerian man that pretended to be Thomas Toud, a Drilling Engineer from South Korea on Facebook, has been sentenced to six months in prison.

Harry Prince Okotie was jailed on Monday by Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the suspect before the court on one count charge bordering on advanced fee fraud.

According to the prosecution, the convict used the false identity to obtain the sum of $1,500 from one Richamar, a citizen of the Philippines in the guise of being in a romantic relationship with her.

Justice Oriji sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment with an option of fine of N100,000.

He is also to forfeit the sum of N220,000, being proceeds of the crime, to the Federal Government.
