Ripples of the last week local government elections in Edo state continue to reverberate as the national secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Sunday called on the federal government to investigate the Brigade Commander of the Nigerian Army in Benin City over the deployment of troops for the elections.
Also, the party said that what took place in the Edo state local government election is like the annulment of the June 12 1993 presidential election. According to PDP, “Since the annulment of June 12 1993, Presidential elections, we have never in the political history of Nigeria witnessed any such assault on the people and democracy like what is going on in Edo state today”.
Addressing a press conference at the national secretariat of the PDP Sunday, the National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh said, “We are questioning the use of the military against the party. PDP as a party therefore call on the Military High Command to investigate the role of the Brigade Commander”.
