ISIS has executed the first female citizen journalist for reporting inside the captured territory.

Syrian journalism organization, Syria Direct said Ruqia Hassan has become the fifth journalist reporting on ISIS to be killed since October.

Hassan, who reported under the pseudonym ‘Nisan Ibrahim’ was always posting her discussions and observations of the situation in Raqqa on Facebook.

Before her execution, ISIS contacted Hassan’s family to inform them of her execution under charges of “espionage.”

Her last Facebook post mocked ISIS for banning Wi-Fi hotspots in the city of Raqqa. She said “Go ahead and cut off our Internet, our messenger pigeons won’t complain.”
