Israeli security forces are on heightened alert, ahead of the funeral of an Al Jazeera reporter killed during a military raid within the week.

This is according to media reports on Friday.

Thousands are expected to attend the funeral of Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot dead in the West Bank.

She would be buried in a Christian Orthodox cemetery next to Jerusalem’s Old City.

The journalist was killed by gunfire on Wednesday during an Israeli operation in the occupied West Bank.

It has not been confirmed who was responsible for the death of the 51-year-old, who was well-known in the Arab world.

Al Jazeera had accused Israel of the murder while Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said it was an execution.

Israel has rejected the accusations and called for a joint investigation.

However, the Palestinians had also rejected the idea of a joint probe.

Israel’s Chief of General Staff Aviv Kochavi said it could not be determined which side was responsible for the deadly shooting.

The Israeli army had reported only that there was a fierce firefight with dozens of Palestinian militants during the raid in Jenin.

Since March 21, nearly 20 people have been killed in a wave of attacks in Israel, not including the Palestinians who carried out the attacks.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, more than 20 Palestinians have been killed since the end of March.

Several Palestinians had been killed in Israeli military operations, as well as in their own attacks and clashes with the army.
