The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Edo State, Mrs. Magdalene Ohenhen has stated that incest, especially between a father and his daughter is gradually turned into a regular occurrence in the state.
She explained that such occurrences are disheartening, urging that all culprits stop it before it escalates further. The commissioner made the claim while she was addressing members of a protest organized by the Brave Heart Initiative for Youth and Women (BHI) in the state.
The group which was led by Grace Osakue was demanding for justice for a seventeen years old girl that was allegedly impregnated by her own father on two different occasions; one in 2017, and another in 2018.
The commissioner stated, “It’s a very sad situation. Edo State is becoming something else, and the earlier we stop it, the better for us. It is becoming a normal thing in Edo State for men to impregnate their own daughters.”
She further narrated another story of a father who had sex with his child for 10 years consecutively before he was later exposed and handed over to the police.
Ohenhen urged, “It is time we stopped all these. Edo State forbids it, it is a taboo. We are begging Edo men to stop sleeping with their daughters, it is an abomination.”
