The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has said that it is his turn to be President of the Senate.

Kalu, who was the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was re-elected to represent Abia North senatorial district in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly election.

The former Abia governor said that by virtue of his experience in the upper chamber, he should take over from Ahmad Lawan as Senate President.

Kalu said this during an interaction with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.

He promised to continue to engage Nigerians as has been his practice since he first became governor over two decades ago.

“If I’m elected senate president, I’m going to work for every corner of Nigeria,” he said.

On his credentials to lead the nation’s legislature, the senator said, “I schooled in Maiduguri, Borno state. I started my business in Lagos and spread it across all state capitals.

“My first name will be team Nigeria, my last name will be team Nigeria.

“Remember I am the only governor who has never changed my phone number since I became governor 24 years ago.

“The same MTN (line) I have is what I’m having and I will be willing to still maintain that phone number to answer to my calls.

“I’m not going to switch off my phones, because I’m Senate President but I’m hoping that Nigerian people will pray for me to be Senate President because it’s my turn.”

  • As a person he is good ,warm and kind hearted. His only problem is free speech. Which atimes failed to define his person.I think David Mark set a high standard for the Senate.Which in my opinion, except for Saraki, is difficult to follow.
I don’t see APC zoning the Senate Presidency to South East. But should it happen, Uzodinma is waiting in the wings to redirect it to Imo State.
