King Mswati III of Swaziland has directed all men in the country to marry at least five wives or risk a “life sentence”.

According to the directive, the government would pay for the marriage ceremonies and even buy the family a house to live in.

“Here’s the deal, marry at least five wives and you’re assured that the government will pay for the marriage ceremonies and buy houses for them,” iHarare quoted the directive from the King.

The directive from the king takes effect from June 2019.

The move was said to have been geared towards finding a husband for as many women as possible.

King Mswati III is reportedly concerned that the country was full of many virgins with no men to marry them.

The king himself is believed to have 15 wives and 25 children.
