Benin city, capital of Edo state has been thrown into pandemonium after prisoners allegedly escaped from their cells amid #EndSARS nationwide protests.

According to reports, the escaped prisoners had help from hoodlums who converged close to the prison popularly called White House as early as 7am on Monday morning.

The hoodlums blocked Sapele road, obstructing other road users from plying the route.

Breaking a part of the fence, the suspected thugs gained entry into the prison yard.

However, all the efforts of  prison guards to repel the attack proved abortive as they were outnumbered and overpowered by the hoodlums.

A video circulating on social media shows several prisoners descending high fences of the prison building in Sapele.
