Jail break was an inside job – Nigerians allege as Benin prisoners escape

3 Min Read

Many Nigerians have begun to speculate that the infamous Edo state Jail break on Monday was an inside job.

Nigerian youths whose peaceful protests entered Day 9 were shocked to learn that inmates in White house prison broke out of their cells with the help of suspected thugs under the decoy of protesters.

However, young Nigerians have countered  claims that Protesters orchestrated the escape plan.

Many youths on social media alleged a jail break was nearly impossible unless the prisoners had help from the prison wardens and other security operatives.

White House prison along Sapele road, Benin is neighbours with the office of Department of State Services (DSS), State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Police station and Armed Forces base.

According to Edo state residents, Sapele road should be one of the most secured roads in the state due to the high security agencies located along the road.

Many youths are of the opinion that the thugs were paid to orchestrate an escape plan for prisoners as a ploy to disrupt the protests.

@fisayosoyombo who spent 8days in Ikoyi prison conducting an undercover investigation wrote;

As someone who lived eight days in prison as an inmate during an undercover investigation,

I can tell you that it is NOT possible for unarmed protesters or hoodlums to break into a prison in Edo State or elsewhere and set inmates free.

No largescale jailbreak can succeed without:

(i) the active connivance of prison insiders,

(ii) the tacit support of prison security or

(iii) the disguised involvement of prison authorities.

When you’re ready to tell us the truth — or if you ever will — we’ll be here, waiting.

I think it is the voice of Jacob but hand of Esau. Government might be behind all these to rationalize military actions against #EndSARS protests nationwide. Over the weekend min of information Lai Mohammed sounded out what maybe in d offing warning govt will not condone anarchy

Ko possible, sir. #EndSARS

@olamipejo1017

That thing is an inside job. The government is playing a well written script. The protesters needs to be careful out there. Shameless government.

@haslek16

It’s not well written since the gate of the prison was not pushed down, no part of the fence was broken, the protesters didn’t enter the prison.
