A 63-year-old motorist, Samuel Olujimi, who allegedly drove his jeep recklessly and crushed
a 15-year-old secondary school student, was on Thursday brought before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Olujimi is facing a two-count charge of dangerous driving and breach of public peace.

Police Prosecutor Oladoye Joshua told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 12 at 4.10 p.m. at Aiyegbaju
Market, Ogo-Oluwa in Osogbo.

Joshua, an inspector, said the accused allegedly drove a Honda Pilot jeep with registration no. LG 243JJJ in a reckless manner

He said the accident led to a breach of public peace before the intervention of the Police, who helped to restore order.

The offences contravened Sections 18(1) and 27 of the Road Traffic Act, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The motorist pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Mr Olu Adeniran, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adebukola Oloyade, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Oloyade said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, provide evidence of tax payment and three passport
photographs.

The case was adjourned until May 24 for hearing. (NAN)
