The Jigawa Government on Saturday said it had procured 20,000 metric tonnes of assorted fertiliser for sale to farmers during the current cropping season.

The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Social Development and Community Inclusion, Alhaji Hamza Muhammad, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

Muhammad said that the fertiliser was being sold to the farmers at Federal Government’s approved rate of N5, 500 per bag.

He, therefore, urged the farmers to visit any of the Jigawa State Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO) in their local government areas where the consignments domiciled.

The aide said that the government would no longer allocate fertiliser to anyone, pointing out that the gesture was to remove any obstacles that might hinder farmers from accessing the commodity on time.

According to him, the government has so far distributed more than 350 trucks of the product to its cluster farmers across the state.

“First and second consignments of the product have been distributed to the cluster farmers.

“And before the end of the exercise, 600 trucks were expected to be distributed to the cluster farmers,” Mahammad said.

He said that each of the cluster farmers in rice production would receive six bags of `Urea and NPK’ types of the community.

He said that farmers, who were into sesame production, would receive eight bags each while those in groundnut production would receive four bags respectively.
Mahammad said that the aim was to encourage massive production of those crops in the state.
