Jigawa Govt. procures N3m fingerlings to boost fisheries’ production

The Jigawa Government said it had spent over N3 million on the procurement of 150, 000 fingerlings to accelerate fisheries production in the state.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Kabiru Ali, said this Friday at the fisheries’ awareness rally in Kaugama Local Government Council of the state.
Ali said the state government had stocked fingerlings at the Warwade Dam in Dutse Local Government, adding that the gesture would encourage fish farming.
He explained that the government had adopted proactive measures to encourage livestock, fisheries and poultry productions.
Ali said that the state government had also introduced farm cluster scheme to enhance farmer access to inputs, mechanisation, promote agricultural processing and enterprising skills.
The commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to transform agriculture by building the capacity of farmers to enable them increase their production output.
Also speaking, Alhaji Isa Abubakar, the Chairman, Fisheries Co-operative Federation of Nigeria (FCFN), said that the rally was designed to expose fish farmers to modern techniques.
Abubakar said that the exercise was aimed at promoting investment in fish farming, processing and preservation as well as add value to fish products.
According to him, the exercise attracted fishermen and stakeholders from Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States. (NAN)
