Former US vice President, Joe Biden has formally clinched the Presidential nomination form for the Democratic Party putting him in a tense race for the White House against Republican incumbent, Donald Trump.

Presidential elections in the US are expected to come up in November against a tense political atmosphere and a health pandemic.

Issuing a statement in acceptance of the nomination on Friday, Biden said;

“It was an honor to compete alongside one of the most talented groups of candidates the Democratic party has ever fielded and I am proud to say that we are going into this general election a united party.”

Joe Biden became the only candidate competing for the nomination after his strongest challenger, Bernie Sanders pulled out April.

The former vice President under Barrack Obama however, pulled the 1,991 needed to clinch the nomination after primaries were held in seven states including the district of Columbia held presidential primaries on Tuesday.

The increase in mail ballot in several states made the tabulation process slow.

With the needed delegates in the pocket, Biden now has to consolidate his candidacy in eight more states and three US territories.

This is Biden’s third bid for the US Presidency after having spent 36 years in the Senate before becoming vice President under Obama for eight years.
