The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended Monday’s mass sack of heads of government agencies and parastatals appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking to State House correspondents on Tuesday after leading the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) into a meeting with the president, the National Chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun said the party was not concerned about the positions but was concerned about internal sabotage of the present administration going on within the positions occupied by the PDP-appointed officials.

He said: “It is happening in INEC, it is happening in a lot of other institutions and that is what the concern of the party is, not necessarily taking over.

“We should take over and there should be people who believe in the change agenda, we have no apologies for that at all.”

Odigie-Oyegun noted that it was the president’s prerogative to decide what time the available position will be filled.

He also cleared the air on the supposed confusion surrounding the 2016 budget, insisting that there was no confusion whatsoever as widely believed.

He added, “There is absolutely no confusion. This is a serious issue.

“I want you to please understand the complications that come from adjusting a structure from over 40 ministries to just over 20 ministries and the necessary adjustments of figures and movements of institutions that, that entails.

“It was very complicated, so it is natural that adjustments have to be made to the process and that is just is happening.”
