Joshua vs Ruiz: Rematch slated for November/December

Recently defeated British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, would have a chance to reclaim his champion status in a rematch against Andy Ruiz, according to his show promoter, Eddie Hearn.

Eddie revealed that there’s already an ongoing plan to stage the fight in either November and December.

The rematch became unavoidable following Joshua’s shocking loss to Ruiz.

The fight which cost him his IBF, WBO, and WBA world heavyweight titles, did not go down well with his fans, forcing some to think he may have staged his own defeat.

Thankfully, a rematch clause was part of the agreement signed by both fighters before the match, and with his insistence on having another fight with Ruiz, the clause has now been triggered.

In the post-match conference, Joshua who appeared shocked himself, vowed to retrieve the belts he lost to Ruiz, restating his desire to fight against Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.

He said, “I still want to compete with those men but a rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr is where we are at. I’m still a champ and I will rectify it to get the belts back.”

Announcing the conclusion of their meeting on Tuesday night via his Twitter handle, Hearn wrote, “After meetings with AJ, Rob Mc[Cracken – Joshua’s trainer] and the management team in NY, we have today triggered the contracted rematch clause with Andy Ruiz Jr. The fight will take place in Nov/Dec at a venue to be confirmed shortly.”
