Journalist Charged for Insulting Lai Mohammed Regains Freedom

A freelance Broadcaster and journalist, Rotimi Jolayemi also known as Oba Akewi has regained his freedom from police custody after 45 days in jail for insulting Lai Mohammed.

The journalist was charged with causing annoyance, Ill will, hatred and insults towards the minister of information, Lai Mohammed, to which he pleaded not guilty.

According to a report by the Cable, his wife Dorcas confirmed his release on Friday. He was however asked to return on Monday to sign some papers.

Jolayemi was arrested after he recorded and shared an eight minute long audio on WhatsApp critising Lai Mohammed.

The minister allegedly ordered his arrest since May. He was also ordered to be remanded in police custody when he was charged to court on June 12.
