President Muhammadu Buhari will deliver a nationwide address to Nigerians at 7 p.m today.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina stated this in a statement.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation Sunday, March 29, 2020, at 7 pm.

“Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast,” Adesina state.

The president is expected to brief Nigerians on the coronavirus pandemic confronting the nation.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), 97 cases have so far been recorded in the country, with Lagos (59) and the Federal Capital Territory (16) leading the pack.

Since the index case was recorded late February, many Nigerians have tested positive for the virus, including the president’s Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari.

Some other prominent persons that have tested positive for the virus are Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mohammed Babandede.

Both critics and supporters of Buhari have called on him to address the nation about the current state of response to coronavirus in the country.
