Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High court sitting in Lagos has issued an order for the immediate release of Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia state.
Kalu who was the Senate Majority Whip got imprisoned at the Kuje Correctional Centre after the court found him guilty of looting the state funds to the tune of N7.1billion.
Lateef Fagbemi, legal counsel to the former governor had earlier filed an application for the release of his client.
Justice Liman granted Lateef’s application after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission presented no opposition to the request, The Nation reports.
