A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered Senator Ali Ndume to be remanded in prison custody for failing to produce Abdulrasheed Maina, who he stood surety for, in court.

Ndume (APC – Borno South) is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army.

He had stood surety for Maina, a former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), in May 2020.

Maina is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over N2 billion money laundering charges.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Okon Abang, ruled that the senator must be remanded at the Kuje Prisons until he either produces Maina in court or sells off the N500 million worth of property located in Asokoro, Abuja, which was used as the guarantee for the bail bond and tenders the evidence of the payment of the proceeds of the sale into the Federation Account.
