Just In: ICPC arrests President Buhari’s former aide, Obono-Obla

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offence Commission (ICPC) has arrested Okoi Obono-Obla.

Obono-Obla, the suspended chairman of the Special Investigation Panel on Recovery of Public Property (SPIP), was arrested by the ICPC operatives in Abuja on Friday, March 20.

The former presidential aide’s arrest was confirmed by the spokesperson of the anti-graft commission, Rasheedah Okodowa.

Okodowa said: “Mr. Obono-Obla was arrested a few hours ago in Abuja. Details will be communicated to the public.” 

Earlier, The Herald reported that President Buhari disbanded the Special Presidential Investigation Panel, known as SPIP, for the Recovery of Public Property as headed by Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the Attorney-General of the Federation who is also the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has been ordered to assume leadership, taking charge of all pending investigations, including other tasks of the SPIP.

Recall, President Buhari also dissolved the Economic Management Team with VP Osinbajo as Chairman. The President installed replaced the EMT , with a new council called the Economic Advisory Council,  EAC, with the likes of  Charles Soludo, Rewane and so on  as members.

In the statement, President Buhari also demanded that the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, deliver a detailed final report of the investigation on Obono-Obla.
