Fugitive former Chairman of the Pension Reforms Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina has been arrested in Niger Republic.

Maina was arrested by operatives of the intelligence service in collaboration with men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a town in Niger, PR Nigeria reported.

The arrest was said to have been facilitated by a mutual relationship and security agreement between the two neighbouring countries.

Recall that he is being prosecuted alongside a company by the EFCC on a 12-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N2 billion.

He is facing trial before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The trial judge recently ruled that the accused had jumped bail and subsequently ordered his bail surety, Senator Ali Ndume (APC – Borno South) to be remanded on Monday.

On Friday, the judge granted Ndume, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, bail based on good behaviour, even though the other grounds of his bail application failed.

Justice Abang granted Senator Ndume bail pending the hearing and determination of his appeal filed at the Court of Appeal to challenge Monday’s order sending him to jail for his inability to produce the fugitive Maina.

However, EFCC sspokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said he was yet to be briefed on the matter.
