Juventus soars to Serie A summit, beats Roma at home

After Inter Milan was held to a draw on Saturday, Juventus capitalized on the set back to leap-frog the Rossoneris moving 2 points clear at the top of the log as they held on for a 2-1 victory away to Roma on Sunday.

The Old Lady scored twice within the first 10 minutes of the game with Merih Demiral finishing off a Paula Dybala’s freekick before the latter then won a penalty which Cristiano Ronaldo concerted.

Ronaldo goal scoring streak of 9 goals in 7 games played a hand in propelling the champions back to the summit of the league after they loss to Lazio late last year.

A long injury break to 20-year-old Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, following a challenge by Matthijs de Ligt took some spotlight away from a rather exciting half.

Roma responded in the second half through Diego Perotti’s spot-kick.

The home side were firing on all cylinders as they charged for the equaliser. Edzin Dzeko hit the post and Gonzalo Higuain had a goal disallowed as Juventus held on for the winner.

Roma dropped to 5th overtaken by Atalanta, Juventus go top, Inter drop off to second and Lazio are third with a game in hand.
