Kaduna State Government Makes N1.9 Million from COVID-19 Lockdown Violators

The Kaduna State Government has claimed that it made a whopping N1.9 million from fines imposed on violators of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions imposed to check the spread of the virus.

According to the Kaduna State Ministry of Justice, 605 violators were convicted within 48 hours; Thursday and Friday last week.

“About N1,909,600 was realized as fines from the convictions and 41 offenders were given community service.”

The Justice Ministry added in a statement signed by Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, Aisha Dikko.

Most of the violators were convicted for failure to wear masks in public and violation of the stay at home order.

The Attorney General issue a note of warning to residents in the state motorcycles, Tricycles and Cars used in violating the lockdown order will be impounded and forfeited to the State Government.

She also stressed that residents who fail to wear masks in public will pay N5,000 as fine, while failure to maintain physical distancing will attract a fine of N7,000.

”Unauthorised riding of motorcycles and tricycles during the lockdown, as well as driving motor vehicles, trucks and buses, attract N5,000, N10,000, N20,000, N30,000, N20,000 respectively, she concluded.
