Kano Elders Condemn Sanusi’s Dethronement, Vow To Challenge Action in Court

Elders in Kano State have condemned the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir of Kano and his subsequent banishment from the city by the Governor of the State, Ganduje.

The elders who belong to the Forum, Advocates for a United Kano have also vowed to challenge the action of Governor Ganduje in court.

Speaking through a statement issued on Monday, the chairman of the elders forum, Bashir Othman-Tofa described the dethronement of Sanusi as a sad, unfortunate and illegal incident.

Excerpts from the statement read;

“The advocates call on all Kanawa and residents of Kano state and beyond to stay calm, and not to resort to any violent reaction whatsoever. Violence is no solution to anything, for no one can predict where it may lead to.

“In particular we have vowed to sustain our judicial challenge to the unlawful law passed by the Kano House of Assembly under which the governor purportedly removed the Emir.”

Emir Sanusi II was dethroned by Ganduje on Monday and replaced with Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir.

According to the State Government, Sanusi was removed from office for disrespecting the Governor as well as other Government officials.
