Kano: How 22 Students On Excursion, Driver Died In Road Crash

An 18-seater bus conveying 22 students of Government Secondary School, Misau, Bauchi State, who were on excursion in Kano, has collided with an articulated vehicle, killing all the students.

The driver of the school bus was also killed in the accident which occurred around 11am on the Bauchi–Kano Road on Tuesday.

The accident occurred in Tsaida village in Gaya Local Government Council in Kano, as the students were on their way on excursion to a radio station.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the 22 students and their driver died while three others sustained serious injuries, quoting spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kano State, Kabir Ibrahim-Daura.

He said, “Of the 22 students, 12 are males while the remaining 10 are females.

“Two of the injured were taken to Gaya General Hospital while the remaining one has been referred to a Specialist Hospital in Kano.”

He added that the bodies had been deposited at the Gaya General Hospital.

The school bus and and an oncoming DAF truck conveying tomatoes were said to have collided while trying to avoid a pothole.

Both vehicles were on high speed, according to an eyewitness, Ibrahim Adamu.
