Katsina Govt Seals Off Emir Of Daura’s Palace As Several Test Positive For Coronavirus

The Emir of Daura’s Palace has been sealed off by the Katsina state government after several people within the palace tested positive for coronavirus.

According to Politics Nigeria, 6 people from the palace have reportedly died from the virus.

The governor of the state, Aminu Masari disclosed that the government was forced to make the decision after several people tested positive in the palace.

Aminu said: “So far, we have taken samples of 89 persons from the palace. You know that the palace is like a government house with a large concentration of people.

“The lockdown does not seem to be so effective so we must design ways to strengthen the lockdown. This is because in spite of the lockdown we had 23 new cases in Katsina town alone under 24 hours.”

The secretary to the state government, Dr Mustapha Inuwa, said the results of the samples taken will determine when the palace will be reopened.

He said: “It is a normal protocol worldwide that anywhere positive cases are recorded, the places are sealed off and samples taken to address spread.”

The spokesman of the state police command, SP Gambo Isa, said: “For the police, Daura is under lockdown and so it shall be in every nook and cranny in the town without exception to anybody’s house, the police are just ensuring the lockdown order of the state government.”
