Pastor Bayo Oladeji, the media aide to the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Dr Samson Ayokunle, has advised Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State to keep quiet if he has nothing meaningful to say about what Catholic Bishops told President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday.
Oladeji said this in reaction to comments credited to Bello that only corrupt politicians and those using private jets to move cash to South Africa could be angry with Buhari.
“And of course , those who have looted the country dry and normally go to the church and mosque to pay tithe, are no longer doing so. Of course, these are the category of people that are angry,” Bello told journalists after observing Jum’at prayers at the Presidential Villa mosque on Friday.
Bello made the declaration in reacting to a statement by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria led by Dr. Ignatius Kaigama in a Thursday meeting with Buhari that Nigerians were angry with his administration and his goodwill among Nigerians was fast being “depleted”.
According to Sunday Punch, Oladeji also advised Bello to concentrate on saving the lives of workers that have been committing suicide in his state because of his failure to pay their salaries.
Oladeji asserted that Bello knew nothing about what the Catholic bishops told the president, adding that a CAN delegation led by Ayokunle had told the president the same thing as the Catholic bishops in a November 2017 meeting.
He said, “If he (Bello ) says some people were looking for free money, he should keep quiet if he has nothing to say. Under his watch, people are committing suicide and he has refused to pay workers. If he is the one that would be running to Abuja to defend the President, then something is wrong somewhere.”
Oladeji added, “Go to his (Bello’s) state and see what is happening there; Okene is now the headquarters of kidnapping. If the welfare of his people is not his concern, he shouldn’t force the President to follow in his steps. If he wants to become the President’s errand boy, he should resign and relocate to Abuja.”
