Kevin De Bruyne Hints at Skipping Club World Cup Amid Summer Exit Plans

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has suggested he may opt out of participating in this year’s FIFA Club World Cup, citing concerns over potential injury risks that could jeopardize his plans to join a new club.
The 33-year-old, whose contract with City is set to expire this summer, has expressed hesitation about extending his stay at the club solely to feature in the tournament, which takes place in the United States between June and July.
Speaking on his future, De Bruyne said: “I think in a way I have to take care of myself because if I get injured in the Club World Cup, what am I going to do? Nobody’s going to take care of me at that point.”
The Belgian playmaker, who has been instrumental in Manchester City’s recent dominance, added that there’s “a big chance” he won’t feature in the tournament, although he has not ruled it out completely. “Maybe yes,” he said, leaving the door slightly ajar.
De Bruyne’s potential absence would be a blow to City’s ambitions at the revamped Club World Cup, which features 32 of the world’s top clubs. His comments further fuel speculation about his next move, with several top European and Middle Eastern clubs reportedly interested in securing his services as a free agent.
