Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has advised members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP against apathy in the forthcoming elections slated to hold in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo, respectively, on Saturday.

The PDP Presidential flag bearer urged voters to turn out massively and vote for the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

He gave this charge in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the All Progressive Congress, APC, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has brought poverty and untold hardship to Nigerians.

He, therefore, stated that it was risky for PDP members to engage in apathy at a time like this.

Atiku further noted that despite the fact that the manner in which the last general elections were handled by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC brought about dissatisfaction and resentment, it was not enough reason to give up on democracy in the country.

According to him, the objective of the PDP is to defeat anti-democratic elements.

He said it would be a colossal failure if members of the party refused to turn out en masse to cast their ballot on election day as their votes were capable of defeating anti-democratic forces.

He, therefore, urged members of the party to derive wisdom from the saying of former US President James Monroe, that “the best form of government is that which is most likely to prevent the greatest sum of evil.”

He expressed faith in the party’s candidates in the three states, attesting to their credibility as opposed to the candidates of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

He noted that Governor Duoye Diri, the governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, is a leader responsible to and for the people.

According to him, the giant strides of Diri in the areas of infrastructure and social development speak volumes.

He also noted that Dino Melaye, the governorship candidate of the party in Kogi State, has used every opportunity available to him to drive speedy development to his constituents, maintaining that electing him governor will afford him a bigger platform to do even more.

Speaking on Imo State, Atiku stated that the PDP candidate, Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has a “rich profile of a political leader who is not only in touch with the grassroots but is committed to protecting the interests of his constituents.
