The outgoing Kogi State governor, Idris Wada may not be having a successful end to his tenure as organised labour unions in the state have asked him to account for the disappearance of over N2 billion of the state fund.
The workers are currently on industrial action since December 23, over the non-payment of their salaries running into four months now, including over 21-28 months salaries owed primary school teachers and local government staff in the state.
A statement jointly signed by the state chairmen of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Onuh Edoka and his counterparts in the Trade Union Congress and Joint Negotiating Council, which was made available to journalists in Lokoja, the state capital, yesterday, indicated that Governor Wada inherited a robust state from his predecessor only to hand over a debt infested state running into billions of naira to his successor.
Besides the earlier over N10billion allegedly misappropriated by Governor Wada, the labour leaders are asking him to account for the over N1.9billion he claimed to have been released for the procurement of earth moving equipment which they said had suddenly disappeared from the state since he lost election.
The workers also asked Wada to explain the disappearance of the monthly N50 million set aside for payment of pensioners in the state and the sudden disappearance of SURE-P funded buses which they alleged the governor used a private company as a cover to siphon.
The workers also lambasted the media aide to the governor, Mr Jacob Edi, for fueling the crisis between them and Governor Wada, urging the governor to pay the one month salary he promised since December or he would remain in the black book of the workers for life.
