Some residents of Gaube community in Kuje Local Council in the FCT, have said that lack of basic amenities, including basic healthcare facilities was making life difficult for them.
The residents in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday urged the council’s Chairman-elect to make provision of basic amenities a priority on his assumption of office.
“Our new chairman should remember us and provide the necessary things every community deserves,’’ they said.
The residents said further that they were displeased by the council’s neglect and refusal to develop the area.
When NAN visited the community, some residents said they had no access to potable water, power supply, quality health treatment and good road network.
Mr Mica Ayuba, an artisan in the area, told NAN that “business has failed to move because we don’t have electricity and good roads.
“Petrol is very expensive in this village and we don’t profit very well in our business, which is making life difficult.”
Mr Usma Baba, a plantain farmer, complained of the deplorable state of the road and the difficulty farmers faced in transporting their farm produce to the market.
“Our road is not good at all, we find it very hard and expensive to take our plantain to Kuje on market day.
“During raining season, we, farmers, find it very difficult to transport our goods to the town because of the bad road.
“We want the area council to come and repair our roads, to give us water and light,’’ Baba said.
Another resident, Mrs Gloria Jaba, a business woman, said the clinic in the community was poorly equipped, making it very difficult for pregnant women during delivery.
“Women don’t find it easy when they want to give birth; we travel all the way to Kuje General Hospital because our clinic is empty.
“By the time we get to the hospital, some women give birth on the road because the road is not good,’’ Jaba added.
She urged the Kuje Local Council to come to their aid. (NAN)
