The Kwara chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has joined other Nigerians in mourning the death of the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, who died on Friday from COVID-19.

The association’s Chairman, Dr Kolade Solagberu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Ilorin that it was saddening to hear of his death.

He, however, berated the deceased’s treatment in a private hospital and not in any of the isolation centres set up by the government.

Solagberu said that treating Kyari at a private hospital suggested that the facilities provided by the government were not good enough for everyone.

”We are sad to hear this morning that the Chief of Staff to the President Muhammadu Buhari did not make it and we condole with his family and friends over the loss.

”This is an eye-opener for those that still think COVID-19 is a joke.

”But it was unfortunate that he was treated at a private hospital and not in any of the isolation centres created for treating all patients.

”This singular act by the government posits that the isolation centres are not good enough for everyone,” he said.

The chairman also warned against further treatments of COVID-19 patients at home or at a private hospital, saying it could be disastrous.

”This has been done already but we are warning our fellow doctors not to engage in treating COVID-19 patients either at home or in private hospitals in a bid to conceal the status of the individuals involved.

”This will end up causing more harm for the patient, health personel and the country at large,” Solagberu said.

NAN reports that Kyari died on Friday, April 17 at a private hospital.

He has been buried according to Islamic rites at the Gudu Cemetery, Abuja.
