The Lagos State commissioner for health, Professor Akin Abayomi has debunked rumors claiming he tested positive for COVID-19.
Earlier on, he announced via his official Twitter page that 10 associates of the Lagos State House in Marina had tested positive for the virus. Some reports claimed he was one of the 10.
Details of the positive individuals were not disclosed, but the Commissioner said they are “associated” with the state house.
Abayomi has earlier stated: “I am glad to announce that COVID-19 Incident Commander Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the First Lady, Joke Sanwoolu have consistently tested negative for COVID-19 following three consecutive tests conducted on them recently,
“However, 10 persons associated with Lagos State House in Marina have tested positive to COVID-19.”
He however, released a disclaimer that the rumor about him testing positive for COVID-19 is false.
He tweeted: “I hereby implore the general public to disregard the fake and misleading news circulating in the media to the effect that I have tested positive to #COVID19 infection.
“It is evident that the fake news is calculated at causing panic and unnecessary anxiety amongst the populace.
“I therefore urge the public to disregard any news on #COVID19 that does not emanate from @followslasg official communication channels and other verifiable sources.”
