Lagos Govt grants AFED to participate in Spelling Bee competition

The Association for Formidable Education Development (AFED) says Lagos State Government has approved the association’s participation in its annual “Spelling Bee” competition.

Mrs Ifejola Dada, President of the association, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that it would be the first time that a privately owned school would participate in the competition that has been held for 15 years.

She said AFED schools were approved to participate in the competition because they were complementing the effort of public schools.

“AFED schools are like public schools; they complement the efforts of the government by providing quality education at affordable fees for children of low-income earners.

“They are like public school and that is why the government deem it fit to allow our schools participate in the competition,’’ Dada said.

She urged school owners to take advantage of the opportunity and register their schools.

She said that the competition would expose children and help them to build their vocabularies by spelling and pronouncing words correctly.

NAN reports that the competition is an annual academic exercise organised by the state government for public schools children. (NAN)
