Lagos Policemen Must Never Operate In Mufti – Commissioner

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has warned policemen attached to the state to steer clear of operating in mufti or they will be sanctioned.

The no-nonsense police boss made this known on Thursday at the 3rd Stakeholders Security Meeting on Security Policing, organised by the Area ‘D’ Command, Mushin.

However, he listed the categories of policemen permitted to wear specialised jackets with inscription of his unit, saying some non-uniformed policemen were causing embarrassment to the command.

He said the two policemen who recently effected the arrest of a young legal practitioner while in plain clothes in the Ikoyi area of the state would be demoted in ranks.

The policemen were seen on a video which has seen gone viral assaulting the young lawyer.

Edgal said, “Henceforth, no policeman should carry out operational duties in Lagos in mufti without police uniform. The only units allowed to wear jackets with the inscription of his unit on it are the Anti Cultism unit, Anti Kidnapping unit, RAIDER; and the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, FSARS.

“Every other policeman on operational duties must be in uniform. They will only be in mufti only if  they are attached to the investigation unit of the command. “We don’t want any policeman to cause us any embarrassment.”
