Lagos state to begin Clinical Trials for COVID-19

In the search for a cure to Coronavirus Disease, Lagos state government has revealed plans to begin clinical trials to combat the dreaded virus.

Professor Akin Abayomi, State Commissioner for Health made this known while addressing Journalists in Ikeja on Monday, April 6.

He said Lagos state will be partnering with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for the clinical trials.

According to Abayomi, “There are a lot of research going on around the world, so it is possible that at some time in the near future, we will have what we may describe as a definitive cure for COVID-19,” he said.

“Indeed we are setting up our own clinical trials in Lagos in collaboration with other institutions and the NCDC and hopefully by this time next week, we should have started some clinical trials on our patients and on our staff in Lagos State.”

Of the total 238 COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, Lagos state has 120 which makes it the state with the highest number of confirmed cases.
