Landlady drags tenant to court over non-payment of rent

A landlady, Toyyibat Oyeleke, on Thursday dragged one Hashidu Sulaiman ,her tenant, to a Kaduna  Shari’a Court, sitting at Magajin Gari, over alleged non-payment of rent.

The complainant told the court that Sulaiman rented her shop located at No.14 Jema’a Road, but failed to pay N120,000 annual rent.

“He paid 20,000 last year December and  promised to pay the balance of N100,000 in few weeks, but failed to do so,” she stated.

She prayed court to compel the defendant to pack out of the shop as she wanted to use her shop, adding that she was ready to refund the N20,000 he paid.

Sulaiman who resides at Unguwan Rimi area, did not deny the allegation, but said he could not get the money to pay the balance.

He prayed the court to give him time to find another shop.

The judge, Malam Musa Sa’ad –Goma, after listening to both parties, ordered the defendant to pack out of the shop on or before Feb 14.

He also ordered Oyeleke to refund the N20,000 Sulaiman paid to her.(NAN)
