Landlord In Court Over Alleged N100,000 Fraud

A 50-year-old landlord, Akin Oniyide on Thursday appeared in an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over alleged N100,000 fraud.

The police charged Oniyide, who resides at No.6, Erinayo Street, Okitipupa with advance fee-fraud and conversion of other people’s property to personal use.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha told the court that the defendant on June 22, around 10.30 a.m at No. 6, Erinayo Street in Okitipupa Magisterial District obtained N100,000 from the complainant, Bode Akinde , with a promise to sublet two rooms.

Omoyeigha added that the defendant converted the money collected to his personal use.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 419 and 383, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Mosunmola Ikujuni admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

She ordered  that the surety must produce evidence of a year tax clearance paid to the State government.

Ikujini adjourned the case until Sept. 17 for further hearing.
