The Executive Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured citizens that his administration prioritizes the provision of logistics and material support to improve security operations across the state, in order to sustain 24-hour commercial activities across the state.

Sanwo-Olu made a pledge to work with the Nigeria Police Force to increase surveillance at the grassroots, through the community policing arrangement of the Federal Government.

Sanwo-Olu made this known during the visit of the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, charged police officers to justify the confidence reposed in them, in fighting crime and ensuring the safety of the country.

He said, “We need to sustain the Lagos 24-hour economy to boost Nigeria’s non-oil revenue, 70 percent of which is derived from Lagos. There is no way we can sustain the economy if people feel insecure to move freely. Lagos Government has been supporting all security agencies and we will continue to do so to actualize our aspiration of transforming the state’s economy to comply with modern realities.”

The Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu said the Federal Government policing plan was highly welcome and had already gathered a huge support from local vigilante groups such as OOdua People’s Congress which had indicated its readiness to partner the police.

“We have agreed that we will send our special forces to the South-West to work with our police commands across the states. The activities of these special forces will be targeted at areas where bandits and kidnappers are found,” Adamu said.
