Information from members of U.S. President Donald Trump’s team was collected by intelligence officials, the Chairman of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee said on Wednesday.

“I recently confirmed that on numerous occasions, the intelligence community collected information on U.S. individuals involved in the Trump transition”, Republican lawmaker and Committee Chairman Devin Nunes said.

Nunes indicated that the Trump team was not the subject of the surveillance.

He said that the information had been swept up inadvertently.

The remarks come amid a furore over accusations by Trump that former President Barack Obama had ordered his offices wiretapped.

However, the FBI and others said there was no evidence that his offices had been under surveillance.

The FBI is investigating ties between Trump’s team and Russia over its alleged interference in U.S. elections.

Nunes said the information collected did not have any connection to Russia.

“Details about U.S. persons involved in the incoming administration with little or no apparent foreign intelligence value were widely disseminated in intelligence community reports.”

“Nunes was due to share his findings with the president’’, White House spokesman Sean Spicer said. (dpa/NAN) OYE/IEA ========
