Lawyer Drags Hanan Buhari To Court Over Misuse Of Presidential Jet

Hanan Buhari, daughter of the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has been sued by a Lawyer identified as Oluwatosin Ojaomo, over the use of presidential jet for personal purpose.

Hanan Buhari had caused a surge of mixed reactions when she embarked on a personal trip to Buachi State on January 10, 2020 with presidential jet.

Many had argued that the presidential jet was solely for the use of the Presidency, a luxury which should not be extended to any of the President’s relatives.

The lawyer, Ojaomo, filed the lawsuit against Hanan Buhari before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on February 6, 2020.

In his suit, Ojaomo prayed the court for an order declaring unlawful the use of Presidential jet by Hanan Buhari who is not a public officer, for personal engagement.

He prayed the court for an order declaring that “the defendant has no statutory right to privatise the usage of the presidential aircraft, which is provided for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other public officers for official functions”.

Obama in his statement of claim said;

“I know for a fact that the presidential fleet with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is not a property of the defendant (Hanan) or Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but rather, the property of the people of Nigeria, which is provided only for the President to perform his official functions, and nothing more.

“I know for a fact that a huge sum of money has been spent, from public purse, to offset the flight fuelling and other logistics to fly the aircraft to Bauchi State by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“The defendant is bound to pay for the said cost to the Federal Government since she has decided to commercialise one of the aircraft in the presidential fleet of the NAF for her private function.”

Ojaomo further prayed the court for an order compelling the defendant to refund the cost of transporting her to Bauchi with the presidential jet, and a perpetual injunction to restrain the defendant from further abuse of the use of the personal jet.
